Been in your attic lately? If you have a bathroom exhaust fan that’s not vented outside the home it’s time to have a look. (Or better yet, have a professional take a look)

If your exhaust fan is not vented outside, where is all that warm, moist air going? If it’s into your attic, then you probably have issues up there you’ll want to address as quickly as possible! It’s not uncommon to find rotting roof sheathing or framing and mold growth.Bath Fan

It’s all about moisture control. Be sure the moisture from the interior of your home is getting quickly and safely to the exterior of your home. Even the fact that we have cold winters here in Rochester comes into play. That warm, moist air needs to make it outside your home without causing condensation on the vent pipe. Even if the fan is vented outside the home, it may not have the proper type of venting or insulation for the climate. (Condensation dripping from vent piping could be the cause of those mysterious stains on your ceiling)

This is one of those seemingly small things that can turn into big projects if not addressed. So go ahead. Have a look at your exhaust fans and check the venting. Not sure if yours are installed properly? It’s time to call in a professional.
